| Archiving to Dreamwidth |
[15 Apr 2017|12:30pm] |
Dai stiho, cousins.
Subsequent to the recent changes around here, I am going to move myriadwords over to the existing Dreamwidth mirror. I am going to delete my own livejournal and don't want to leave the community unattended. I know we're not very active any more, but I would like to back us up. Consequently, a little over a week from now, on Monday 24 April, I am going to import myriadwords to dreamwidth and then delete this community. If you do not want your content to be imported, I encourage you to delete it before then (or, ideally, move it over to the AO3 or otherwise keep it available).
I know that this will be a pain for anyone who has done any bookmarking of this community and I'm sorry about that. Please let me know if you have any suggestions or requests about this move.

| Young Wizards Christmas in July fic exchange 2014 - signups |
[02 May 2014|06:23am] |
Hi all! Signups for the second Young Wizards Christmas in July are about to start!
Signups are from 1-15 May, with stories to go out around 16 May. So you have plenty of time to sign up!
This year we're trying something new: there's now a section where you can make a wish list of things you want me to consider when allocating you an assignment. If you have signed up last year, and are familiar with how signups work, scroll down to the "Offers" section, where I explain how that will work.
( Signup instructionsCollapse )
If you need an invite to AO3 drop me a comment, or private message me either here on LJ or on tumblr as crankywhitemage and I'll do my best to set you up. Other than that, feel free to ask questions, poke around and if you're interested, sign up!
Also! If anyone would like to beta, feel free to offer in the comments :)

| Young Wizards Christmas in July fic exchange - EIGHT DAAAYS and also prompts |
[22 Jun 2013|05:20pm] |
Hi guys!
We are eight days out from the finalising of the Young Wizards - Christmas in July fic exchange. Given that we are so close to the end, and there are so many good prompts I've done a spreadsheet with all of the prompts, so if you want to write a second story (or a first, if you aren't participating!) you can write one and upload it to the collection (yw_christmasjuly) and it will be revealed at the same time as the rest. For ease of reading, every alternate signup has been greyed out; there's no real significance other than "oh god look at all those lines of words".
If you need help uploading to the collection, or how to gift it to someone, let me know, otherwise I look forward to seeing all the completed stories.

| Young Wizards Christmas in July fic exchange - signups |
[25 Apr 2013|11:28pm] |
So, given the amount of interest I've gotten both over here and on my tumblr, we're doing this exchange! Go team fandom!
Anyway, the challenge is open early and it is over here at AO3. The window for signups does not change, so you have until 15 May to make up your mind about who or what you want to ask for or write about. As I understand not everyone is familiar with AO3, beneath the cut is a pictorial representation of how to do it. It's pretty picture heavy, so heads up.

| Young Wizards fic exchange in July |
[15 Apr 2013|07:49am] |
Hi guys!
I'm just feeling out at this stage whether anyone would be interested in participating in an anonymous fic exchange for Young Wizards/Feline Wizards? At this stage, I'm leaning towards the following:
- It takes place on AO3 - if you don't have an account there I can generate codes for you.
- Signups would be the first two weeks of May, with assignments to go out 18 May, and 30 June are when the stories are due.
- Stories are written anonymously, with the authors to be revealed on 8 July.
- Archive gets revealed during the first week of July (the exact date depends on when everyone has a story, but no later than 5 July).
- The matching process will be that you nominate 2-6 characters you will write for, and 1-4 characters you'd like a story about, along with a prompt. The prompt is a guide and is entirely optional (though incredibly helpful!), while the characters must appear in the story.
- Then in October you all sign up for Yuletide -- I mean. YOU SHOULD ALL SIGN UP FOR YULETIDE...
If you're on tumblr, you've heard all this before and please don't comment again if you commented already, but if you're interested, I'd like to hear from you! I'm hoping for about ten people before I'll set up the exchange, and thus far we have six tentatives. I am super keen to run this exchange, because while I've run multifandom secret santas in the past, I sure haven't done a Young Wizards one. It'll be great!
So yes! If you are interested, or have any questions, feel free to comment! I'm happy to answer any questions that you have.

| Avengers / Young Wizards: Another Path |
[28 Dec 2012|12:58am] |
Avengers / Young Wizards crossover fanfic, set after A Wizard of Mars (2010) and a week after the Avengers movie (2012). No real spoilers, but it helps if you've seen the movie and know a little about Marvel Comics continuity.

| I come bearing Yuletide Treasures! |
[28 Dec 2012|07:43am] |
For those not in the know, Yuletide is an annual small fandom fanfic exchange. Young Wizards has been a staple for a long time, because while our fandom is awesome, we are also a teeny tiny one.
This year, Young Wizards has been astonishingly prolific, with there being sixteen (16!!) stories in the universe.
For Cats of Grand Central, we have one story over here.
For Young Wizards we have fourteen over here in the main collection, and one in the Madness collection.
If you're looking for something a little different, there are also two stories for Tale of the Five here! ONE DAY WE WILL GET THE DOOR INTO STARLIGHT...

| Anti-Entropy: a Young Wizards-inspired mix |
[24 Sep 2012|11:01am] |
I pulled together this mix during some low points over the past year and originally posted it to my journal a couple weeks back. For a while it's been my go-to "bad day" playlist: it starts out being a little sad and a little angry about the things in the world that don't work out and the days when you feel like you've woken up for nothing, but it ends up in a much better place (if not actually happy, at least trying).
While this isn't strictly a Young Wizards fanmix, as the title suggests, it's heavily indebted to YW, particularly DD's insistence that wizardry isn't the only way to counter entropy -- that even "ordinary" people are involved in staving off the Lone One's designs, and that being happy, though hard, matters in the scheme of the universe and not just the scheme of an individual life. Some of the songs on the mix are, for me, very obviously songs about Young Wizards -- a lot of the earlier ones seem relevant to the aftermath of Dilemma, a lot of the later ones about fighting entropy in general -- and in fact I came across a couple of them specifically via YW fandom (I found Rilo Kiley's "A Better Son/Daughter" ages ago via labellementeuse's Dairine fanmix, and Regina Spektor's "On the Radio" via rusting_roses's fic "This (Is How it Works)").
Anyway, even if it isn't specifically YW, I figured I'd share it, in case someone else needs a little bad-day pick-me-up.

Following an amazing sequence of tumblr posts by DD, I threw up my hands and did a WIP dump of my Nita/Kit/Ronan fic over at my DW. I post in case anyone's interested in a few snippets of, basically, three paragraphs before the porn happens, and also perhaps in case people would like to talk about it and/or egg me on to finish one of them! At your own leisure, of course.

| Ship Swap |
[03 May 2012|11:23pm] |
A new community not unlike Yuletide, shipswap is taking nominations for rare pairings - or more common pairings in fandoms as small as ours. I've just nominated Dairine/Carmela and Nita/Carmela for Young Wizards; if there's any other of DD's fandoms or any other pairings you all want to nominate, the post for that is here - have at it! :)
Hope you're all doing well.
Love, your friendly usually-tag mod :)

| Fic backlog! |
[03 May 2012|12:06am] |
Looking through the comm and realizing I never posted links here to some of the more recent things I've written, so I'm putting those up now! Title: Day One ( Read on LJ / Read on AO3) Rating: PG Word Count: ~1300 Pairing: Tom/Carl Summary: They are Advisories now, and life goes on. Or, the one where Carl tries to surprise Tom with homemade pancakes and Peach is not particularly helpful. Notes: Written for rusting_roses in the dai_stiho Friend/Ship fic exchange, beta'd by the ever-lovely araine. Title: Your Local Wizards (click to read on AO3) Author: readingredheadRating: PG (though will potentially vary in future chapters) Notes: A series of drabbles, each under 1000 words, in response to prompts requested on Tumblr. They're posted all together on AO3, but they're meant as standalone pieces. At present, the collection includes: Chapter 1: Date Night; Nita spent half an hour getting ready for the date, and approximately another half an hour berating herself for taking so much time. Nita/Kit, post-AWOM. Chapter 2: Impact; After an intervention that can't be hidden creates a climate of fear and confusion around the presence of wizards, Tom and Carl discuss their options. Tom/Carl. Chapter 3: Friends; It was strange, at first, this whole "having a best friend" thing, and Nita kept worrying that she might be doing it wrong. Gen, set directly post-SYWTBAW.

Title: Love, mother to daughter. Rating: PG Warnings: Spoilers through the beginning of AWAb Word count: 275 Summary: Betty reflects on Nita. Set beginning of A Wizard Abroad. Notes: Unbetad. This is also my first YW piece, so I'd really appreciate some feedback, especially as regards keeping in character.
