Pairing: Tom/Carl Summary: They are Advisories now, and life goes on. Or, the one where Carl tries to surprise Tom with homemade pancakes and Peach is not particularly helpful. Title: Your Local Wizards (click to read on AO3) Author: readingredheadRating: PG (though will potentially vary in future chapters) Notes: A series of drabbles, each under 1000 words, in response to prompts requested on Tumblr. They're posted all together on AO3, but they're meant as standalone pieces. At present, the collection includes: Chapter 1: Date Night; Nita spent half an hour getting ready for the date, and approximately another half an hour berating herself for taking so much time. Nita/Kit, post-AWOM. Chapter 2: Impact; After an intervention that can't be hidden creates a climate of fear and confusion around the presence of wizards, Tom and Carl discuss their options. Tom/Carl. Chapter 3: Friends; It was strange, at first, this whole "having a best friend" thing, and Nita kept worrying that she might be doing it wrong. Gen, set directly post-SYWTBAW.

Hello all! Sorry to post this a bit belatedly, but wanted to give a heads-up that sign-ups are open for dai_stiho's Friend/Ship Exchange. In the spirit of the Young Wizards books, this exchange isn’t just focused on romantic pairings — we want to celebrate the friendships and familial relationships that are so important in these books just as much as any romantic relationships that are present. As Roshaun so aptly puts it in Wizards at War, “For so high and honorable an estate [as friendship], ‘just’ seems a poor modifier to choose.” What better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than to write — and read! — fic that focuses on the complex relationships between these characters we know and love?
Sign-ups will be running until midnight EST on Saturday January 14 (that's in about 36 hours!). Assignments will go out via email by the end of the day on Sunday January 15, and fics will be posted to the comm from February 14-29, so you'll have anywhere from a month to a month and a half to work on your fic if you sign up.

Hello everyone! I know that Yuletide is just wrapping up, and I know that people are still recovering from the winter holidays, but I'm posting today to see who is interested in doing a Valentine's Day Friend/Ship Exchange over at dai_stiho! I hope there are lots of you out there who want to join me in celebrating the characters and relationships that we adore so much.
In the spirit of the Young Wizards books, this exchange isn't just to focus on a certain pairing—we want to celebrate the friendships and familial relationships that are so important in these books just as much as any romantic relationships that are present. As things stand now, we will open this comm on Monday the 9th for sign-ups and sign-ups will run until Friday the 13th. readingredhead and I will match everyone up over the weekend and send sign-ups out (hopefully) by Monday the 16th.
Instead of having the mods post the fics on the comm secretly, we're planning on allowing everyone to post to their own journal, so long as they are cross-posted here to let their recipient know that the fic is up. Unlike the previous challenge, there won't be assigned due dates; we just ask that these fics be posted sometime between Valentine's Day on February 14th and the last day of February (the 29th—yay leap years!). We're also planning on having a 1000 word minimum, as before.

Found out about this through another YA lit fandom and figured I'd share it here: there's a new comm called yalit100 that's putting together prompt tables with 100 one-word prompts to encourage more fanfiction in YA lit fandoms. I already nominated Young Wizards, but they're asking for specific prompt words that people would like to see, so if you have suggestions (or just want to second my nomination) you should go to the suggestions post. I know I'm going to try this!
